Ten Tips For Wholehearted Living: Brené Brown

Ten Tips For Wholehearted Living: Brené Brown

Authenticity is a subject that I not only love to read about and study but one that I am also passionate about teaching the creative women in business that I work with. I struggled with my own journey of losing myself in an online world full of caddy competition and comparison. There are too many "experts" out there teaching copy cat cookie cutter methods and making claims that building a business bigger and faster is the way to pave a path to millions and have influence.

After building numerous businesses over the last 11 years, I found that the path to success is strongly related to how much passion and purpose is behind what we do. Operating from a heart driven space. Having depth and soul to what we do. Daring to use our gifts and talents to change the world.

One day I woke up and was not proud of the person I saw in the mirror. I began to strip away needing to please others. I began to let go of what other people thought of me and get back to what lit a fire inside of me. I got crystal clear on my core values , what gives me goosebumps, and the type of people I wanted in my tribe. I began to listen more to my inner truth. I made a commitment to be 100% fiercely true to ME.

I started to understand how important it was for me to share my story. To be vulnerable. To live free from fear of the opinions and judgements of others. I am still a work in progress but one of the greatest books I have ever read on this topic is Daring Greatly: How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent and Lead by Brené Brown. To say that I love this book is an understatement.

Here are ten tips from Brené on wholehearted living excerpted from Daring Greatly:

1. Cultivating authenticity: Letting go of what people think.

2. Cultivating self-compassion: Letting go of perfectionism.

3. Cultivating a resilient spirit: Letting go of numbing and powerlessness.

4. Cultivating gratitude and joy: Letting go of scarcity and fear of the dark.

5. Cultivating intuition and trusting faith: Letting go of need for certainty.

6. Cultivating creativity: Letting go of comparison.

7. Cultivating play and rest: Letting go of exhaustion as a status symbol and productivity as self-worth.

8. Cultivating calm and stillness: Letting go of anxiety as a lifestyle.

9. Cultivating meaningful work: Letting go of self-doubt and "supposed to"

10. Cultivating laughter, song and dance: Letting go of being cool and "always in control".

#FunFact >>When it came time for Brené to name her book, she was inspired by a speech that Teddy Roosevelt gave in 1910 commonly known as "The Man in the Arena"
