USP and the Key to Effective Selling

An important component to effectively marketing your brand is called a "unique selling proposition" (USP) {by definition: the factor or consideration presented by a seller as the reason that one product or service is different and better than that of the competition.}

Traditional businesses use USP to advertise and market their businesses but this is just as powerful for building and marketing a personal brand.

Very few businesses are one-of-a-kind. Look at home many clothing boutiques, car dealerships and jewelry stores there are. I mean, how many of them are truly unique?? Successful branding and marketing is not about having a unique product or service but instead making YOUR brand and marketing efforts stand out. Your business may not be unique and this is especially true for those that are in network marketing/direct sales with thousands of other reps out there however YOU are a one of a kind. YOU can leverage YOUR voice and authenticity to stand out.  

Too often people fall so in love with their products and services they forget that there is a whole world out there with people who have their own set of problems. Think about the needs of your audience and how you can help them solve it. What are your unique expertise, gifts and talents that can set you apart from everyone else?

Pinpointing your USP takes some creativity and soul searching. You have to clear your mind of thinking of yourself as a rep for a company and see yourself as the CEO of YOU, Inc. and brand. Allow yourself to be brutally honest. What features of your personality, core values and passions jump out at you as something that sets you apart? How can you share that to build the #TrustFactor with your audience so they choose YOU to do business with? 

Once you define your USP, take that message to the world! Be consistent. Use it in every aspect of your brand, message and marketing.
